Chapter House Books is a bibliophile's delight; filled to the rafters with an incredible display of second hand books which reward random browsing just as much as when searching for a particular title.

With shelves bursting with of over 30,000 books, both hardbacks and paperbacks, there's also second hand sheet music, DVDs and CDs.

Chapter House can arrange bookbinding and provide a new book ordering service. It's a well organised space, and easy to navigate; and it's exactly the type of independent book shop you’d hope to discover in such an impressive, historic town.

Greeted with a welcome from owner Claire Porter, whose smiling face is always peeking out from behind a pile of books on her desk, you’re invited to tour the wondrous collection of books and continue your visit with a trip to their sunny coffee shop. Serving light meals, cakes and coffee, the cafe is a hit with locals.

For visitors to the town, you could actually stay at Chapter House! Claire is renting out her flat above Chapter House Books as a holiday rental and, by arrangement, guests can roam the bookshop out of hours. With food, drink and books there is no better, friendlier place to begin your exploration of Sherborne!

"We offer a friendly and warm atmosphere to all our customers!" Claire Porter, owner
