Fresh flavours from Nepal with a western edge
Phat Yaks can be described as the cool, lunchtime hub on Kingsmead Square, serving fresh Nepalese street food with a western infusion. True to their family roots, owner Sarah and her son Arun use authentic flour and spices from local markets for a true taste of Nepal. You often see them collecting fresh fruit and vegetables from the independent stall in Kingsmead Square to use in their salads, pakoras and wraps each day for their strong hoard of regular customers. Most are suitable for vegan and vegetarian tastes too. From working lunches to students, the food at Phat Yaks has won the hearts of locals from all walks of life. The family have been well known for their food for decades and Arun has taken a key role as the next generation of the family business. While he makes sure every cup of speciality coffee is brewed perfectly, his 13 year old sister is responsible for the incredible selection of fresh cakes on offer.
The team are quirky and friendly, with laughter often heard from their open doors. With outside seating and a bright spacious window bar, enjoy watching the bustle of Kingsmead Square with a flavoursome lunch from one of the most up and coming spots in the city.
